The Omen Days

Entering the Season of Quiet…….And Deepening……

Jenny Heston · 3:33 pm ·

Happy Magickal, Mythical, Marvellous, Musing, Manifesting Monday.

Here we are in December!  The last month of 2024 (I’m still shaking my head as this year seems to have flown by and a lot has happened).

So welcome to December, the time when all the commercials advise you what to buy, where to go, what you should have and how you should celebrate!

Which I will be honest feels a tad too much, especially with everyone trying to shove a “Black Friday” deal down your throat.

It occurred to me that they really play on that feeling of FOMO (Fear of Missing out).

I actually had a few people email me demanding why wasn’t I doing a Black Friday Sale?????

Mmmmm, how would I put this, I don’t want to.  I don’t believe in ramming things down people’s throats or using fear and manipulation to force them to buy now.

Not my thing.

Let alone it is incongruent to what the season is inviting us to do.

Which is turn inwards, reflect, nurture and Deepen.

This is why I personally love this time of year.

The days are getting shorter as we approach Winter Solstice (Yule), yet there is a stillness and a quiet that comes with the early dark.

Our ancestors knew about the importance of the fallow season.

Of letting the land lie fallow, to rest and digest, to compost and recuperate.

I look out over my garden and it is going dormant as winter approaches, but I know that under the surface things are gently incubating.

Now is our chance to look within and enjoy spiritual hibernation, peace and renewal.

The seeds of our future, resting in the rich earth, need this period of stillness, as do we.

This modern holiday seasons can be a hectic time, when the stresses and strains of keeping up with getting everything “done”, keep us locked away from nature and more natural ways of being.

I love to walk at night with the doggos and witness the sparkly lights, like gorgeous stars beaming out in the dark.

They feel soothing and welcoming and remind me that we as animals are part of nature and this is our hibernation, our deepening time.

I believe one of the most important steps as Winter approaches is the process of slowing down, of decluttering, of tying up the loose ends.

It’s about intentionally turning within, reflecting, undergoing some material and emotional decluttering so you can ease into the next phase (or year) with more – well – ease.

And calm.

And inner peace.

And enjoy the pause.

It can be challenging to participate in Cyclical Living in a Capitalist World, to say the least!

It can be challenging to enjoy the pause.  As we are conditioned to move on to the next thing as fast as possible.

But there is power, healing and transformation in slowing down and getting comfy in the pause.

Thus, I invite you – if your soul resonates with this feeling.

We will be doing The Omen Days again this year.

Starting with a glorious Solstice gathering.

Last year there were 200 of us who walked this path for 12 days and it was incredible!  Deep, Rich and oh so delicious.  I will share more about The Omen Days next week.

Also, there will be the Book of Winter Solstice (BOWS), a glorious guide to help you shift out of the hamster wheel and into your being.

And for all of those who have asked, yes there will be a Theme Reading for 2025 (nearer the end of the month).

And last but not least in January we are running Flourish – so that you can step into 2025 in a different way.

So no, I don’t do Black Friday Sales – I do Intentional Work that invites you to go deeper.

On that note, let’s crack on with the reading.

We have some lovely guides this week – The Woodland Creatures and they have some glorious insights for you.

Thus, I invite you to slow it down and take a massive breath out (yes out) through your mouth.  As you do, let all the dross, the weight go out with that breath until your lungs are empty.  Then take a deep breath in through the nose and allow all the corners of your lungs and belly to swell, inviting in guidance, possibilities, insight and love.

Do this a few more times.

Then when you are ready, pick the card (or cards) that call to you.

Did you remember to pick?

Let’s go have a wee peek shall we?

THE BAT AND HELLEBORE

Intuition

Bats are guardians of the night, representing dreams, visions, and the subconscious.

They show us how to access our mystical side.

Hellebore is an unusual flower.

Blooming in the winter with downturned sepals, it resembles a cup being poured out – a symbol of emotional candor.

Together, the bat and the hellebore tell us to trust our intuition.

Your instincts can be relied upon.

Curl inward like the hellebore, and as the blind bat trusts its hearing, trust in your intuition to guide you.

If  you are willing, ask yourself these questions:

How can I learn to trust my gut?

Do I need to analyse a problem, or is the answer more immediate and instinctual?

THE RACCOON AND SYCAMORE

Curiosity

The Raccoon and Sycamore calls us to explore a thrilling new interest, idea, or opportunity.

Raccoons are intelligent creatures, dexterous and eager.

Often likened to bandits due to the mask-like markings around their eyes, they are quite loveable rascals – rarely seeking to cause harm – they are just curious.

Like the raccoon, the sycamore tree is associated with a desire to learn and know.

In the Bible, a man named Zacchaeus climbs a sycamore tree to get a better view of Jesus as he passes through the town of Jericho.

Jesus rewards the man’s curiosity by visiting his home.

You are well equipped to explore uncharted territories.

Climb high into the tree of your interests, bounding from branch to branch.

Now is an auspicious time to discover new truths about yourself and your abilities, and revel in them!

If  you are willing, ask yourself these questions:

What new hobbies or interests do I want to explore?

What makes my soul light up?

What have I wanted to try but been too afraid to?

THE WEASEL AND PINE

Introspection

Weasels can be warriors or spies, moving quickly and often alone.

They make observations from afar and adjust their plans accordingly.

Remember that solitary creatures are nothing to fear, and an introverted nature is nothing to feel ashamed of; knowing oneself and being comfortable alone are desirable skills.

Like the weasel, the pine tree works to be self-sufficient.

One of the fastest growing evergreens, its prickly needles have a waxy coating that helps them retain water, thus ensuring their well being.

You are called to a time of solitude.

The lights are sparkly and there is much to do, but it’s time to take a place that allows for contemplation, reflection and re-evaluation.

Taking that time and going inwards all leads to a deeper self-knowledge which cant be found in distraction.

If  you are willing, ask yourself these questions:

When do I like to be alone?

How can I better understand and respect myself?

How do I feel about being alone?

Sending you massive hugs and squeezes.  Allow the warm dark to wrap around you and embrace you like a lover.  Allow yourself to rest, be quiet and most importantly – nurture yourself.  See you next week.

Last reading of the Year. Solstice is Here! And Gifts!

Jenny Heston · 3:33 pm ·

Happy Magickal, Mystical, Marvellous, Magnificent, Majestic, Merry, Manic, Manifesting Monday!

Hello delicious lovely!  How are you?  I am sooooo looking forward to Solstice and I have three Solstice gifts for you! (Which you will discover as you read.)

I want to wish you an amazing holiday season – however you celebrate, and to say thank you.  Thank you for being here, thank you for all your lovely emails and messages.  Thank you for being you and sharing with me.

Solstice arrives on Thursday  the 21st and I am thrilled, as not only is it Solstice, it’s my youngest’s birthday!

But what does the energy of Solstice bring to you?

At the Winter Solstice, when the world appears to stand still, it can serve as a moment out of time, an opportunity to reconnect with our own souls once again.

There’s a very special stillness about the season we are entering. Even though everything appears dead & frozen in the outside world, a new cycle is beginning. You can sense there is magic brewing deep down in the dark.

Winter is like being in the chrysalis stage in the evolution of the butterfly. It’s the time when the caterpillar is wrapped up quietly, in the dark of her cocoon. To the outside world it doesn’t look like anything is happening. (And this is one of the most challenging things about embracing rest: to the outside world it doesn’t look like anything is happening. Our brains scream at us, telling us “you’re not doing anything. You’re wasting your time.”)

But actually, deep in the dark, a quiet transformation is happening: the caterpillar is evolving into a magnificent butterfly.

This is the same transformation your spirit, and all of nature, is undergoing this season. To the outside world life is still & quiet, there’s no movement. You don’t see anything meaningful happening.

But in the darkness, hidden deep inside, a powerful transformation is occurring. You are evolving into a whole new place in your life.

It’s a time of dreaming.

Dreaming up the dreams of everything that will grow in your life this year.

Dreaming up new plans, new ideas, new ways of being that will blossom & grow, and become bountiful harvests in the year ahead.

The dreams of everything to come this year are being sparked in your winter’s rest.

Winter is the season when things are revealed by turning deep within yourself.

Embracing the quiet & the darkness – recognizing that you don’t need to do anything for the magic to unfold.

This is the season of receiving.

Are you willing to receive?

The first gift I have for you is the delightful story of the Yuletide Faeries, a wonderful story to read as an adult, share with children or grandchildren.

The second gift I have for you is a 20 minute guided visualisation called Winter Solstice – Heart Weaving.    This lovely guided visualisation walks you into the warm dark, and you are going to meet some amazing guides and allies.  Come dance with archetypes, myth, healing and shamanic transformation.  And weave something new.

The third gift I have for you is the lovely process of The Omen Days!

And for those who have asked how long “Opening the Doors on 2024 Reading” will be available, it will be available until December 26th, as will The Book of Winter Solstice.

Let’s crack on with the reading.  When I went to the cards and asked who wanted to share this week I thought to myself – perfect!   These glorious guides have only come out once in public, so this is quite delicious, and I love how they decided there were going to be 4 to choose from!

So my darling one,  just settle.  Breathe in the stillness and allow your heart to open and expand and be willing to receive.  Then when you are ready, pick the card or cards that tug on your soul strings.

Did you remember to pick?

Shall we go look?

SISTERHOOD OF RECIPROCITY

Tend to your partnerships.

This could be a time to review or negotiate business, renew romance or friendship, or nurture the very partnership you have with your own soul.

Much of our world suffers from a lack of understanding what our ancestors knew so well: all life is dependent on the generosity of our planet.  There is no thriving without her good graces for food, water, shelter and beauty, and we’d do well to remember it with reciprocity.

Is it time to share?  Celebrate her bounty?  Give back to her resources?  To your relationships or communities?

Long ago we honoured the lack of resources in the winter season with hopeful light-giving ceremonies.  We celebrated the harvest with offerings and gratitude.  We marked each season, each birth, death and love affair by honouring our Earth Mother as benefactress.

Carry this practice forward, know that all parts of your life are interdependent with the elements, creatures and plants of the earth, the same way that your healthy psyche relies on all parts working together.

Balance your genius with  your shadow.  Reconcile love with fear.  Strike a balance between logic and emotion.

All parts of your life that you are proud of must dance with those monstrous parts you fear in order to experience a bountiful, creative life.

Take stock of where you are entwined in a healthy partnership, and where you are not.

This is a time for tending the dance of reciprocity.

W.I.T.C.H (Women in Total Control of Herself)

Control.

No woman alive today needs a dictionary to know what control means within a toxic patriarchy.

She’s experienced it a thousand different ways before she’s hit puberty.

It’s alive in the curves of her psyche, in the expanse of her hips, in the marrow of her bones.

It is domination and restraint.

But in a balanced psyche and in a blanched culture, control can mean something else entirely.

A W.I.T.C.H experiences control through cooperation rather than competition.

She’s engaged with all the parts of her psyche in an attempt to coordinate rather than dominate.

You are being asked, right now, to embrace all the inhabitants of your inner realm, because each deserves respect and a place at the table.  Even the unruly, the inconvenient, the ugly.

Making a space for all under the banner of wild inclusion and giving voice to the shame, malice and anger, as well as every other outlawed part of the psyche, is the way we create integrity, ensuring that no part of our inner realm is involved with factions, divisions, or rebellions.

When your intent is to create rather than compete, you don’t have to dominate.  Your influence is enough.

This is power-with rather than power-over.

Invite whatever is bothering you today into the realm of inclusion and assert your authority.

THE TRAIL BLAZER

This is a pioneering moment.

In order to chart where you’re going and empower the path making, you must know your place.

Only when you know your deservedness and embody  your inherent value can you move with the confidence and radiance required to create your own path.

It’s time to shift your allegiance from pleasing to pleasure, from subservient to subversive, though the very act of claiming your inner knowing as the highest authority.

You will then be willing to abandon everyone else’s expectation and approval before you will abandon yourself.

Stop fearing your path and start blazing it, loyal to the visions in your head and the longing of your heart.  Trust your intuition to guide you to the next right thing for you, even when you can’t see the entire path or explain it to a mind of logic.

Stop looking for the footprints of those who have gone before you.

Don’t settle for how it’s been for others.

Blaze your own trail.

SIREN OF SURRENDER

This is a time to let go.

Although underappreciated, there is power in surrender.

A wise sage once advised, “What we resist persists.”

While you may not yet see a new way to go, the old way is closed.  Stop banging your head and hands on the door that refuses to open.  If it doesn’t open, it’s not your door.

This is a moment to acknowledge what isn’t working, and what alternatives are not yet clear, and surrender to that wide open field of unknowing.

Understand that there will be times when further action is wasted.

Exerting more effort is futile, as it’s only bringing frustration and discouragement.

Know that while society would encourage you to keep pushing, applauding you as you battle and bruise your way through this path, this is a patriarchal paradigm whose time has ended.

Instead, embrace the flow, trust when it leads you to a dead end that there is another way, and it will open when it’s ready.

The days of white-knuckle resilience are over.

Everything is happening for you, not to you, so let go of your original expectation and let yourself experience the generosity of flow.

Ahhh, my heart is filled with joy as I see the cards my guides picked.  Wishing you an amazing holiday season.  Please help yourself to the free gifts and pick an Opening the Doors on 2024.  I am going to spend time being like a caterpillar in a cocoon and relax, rest, read and play.  See you in January.  Big hugs and big love.  Thank you.

May you be blessed,

May you be happy,

May you be peaceful,

May you be healthy,

May you be safe,

May you awaken to the light of your true nature.

After some tense garden negotiations, I assured them I wasn’t taking it all. Now let the lavender-induced faery shenanigans begin: wands, baskets, bath bags, sachets, oils, salts, sugars, jelly and all manner of fragrant magick! 💜🌿

The bees still have plenty.

They also appear to have unionized.

🌙✨ Plot twist... The Cancer New Moon isn’t asking 🌙✨ Plot twist...

The Cancer New Moon isn’t asking you to become a shinier, better, more productive version of yourself.

She’s asking you to remember who you were before you became so ridiculously good at accommodating everyone else.

This week, the lesson found me in the glitter and glorious heart of Kinky Boots, in the rainbow magic of Pride, on a football pitch where fierce competition and deep compassion stood side by side... and finally beneath a moon that quietly whispered,

“Come home.”

Home to your heart.

Home to your intuition.

Home to the wildly beautiful, slightly witchy, gloriously imperfect soul you’ve been all along.

I’ve woven it all together in this week’s New Moon post, along with a deliciously simple ritual to help you release what no longer fits and remember the shape of your truest self.

🌿 Grab a cuppa.
🕯️ Light a candle.
🌙 Then click the link in my bio and come home.

Because, delicious lovely... the world doesn’t need another watered-down version of you.

It needs YOU. 💙

They burned herbalists as witches for three centur They burned herbalists as witches for three centuries and called it heresy. They called it medicine without a license before licenses existed, devil worship. The Malleus Maleficarum specifically targeted women who healed because it worked without the church.

The institutions that lit the pyres built pharmaceutical companies. Aspirin is willow bark, morphine is poppy, digoxin is foxglove, Taxol is Pacific yew, and Metformin is French lilac.

She was killed for giving it to you for free while he was awarded a patent for putting it in a capsule.

The word “pharmacy” comes from the Greek pharmakeia and it means sorcery.

Receipts: Malleus Maleficarum (1487). Aspirin derived from Salix alba (willow bark), Bayer 1899. Digoxin from Digitalis purpurea, first described by William Withering 1785. Taxol from Taxus brevifolia, NCI 1967. Metformin from Galega officinalis. Pharmakeia: Strong’s Greek 5331.

Because at some point in midlife something shifts. Because at some point in midlife something shifts. And it’s not that we become mean or difficult or hard to be around.

It’s that we spent decades shrinking ourselves to fit into spaces that were never designed for us.
Softening our words so nobody felt uncomfortable. Swallowing our opinions to keep the peace. Apologizing for taking up space. Managing everyone else’s feelings while completely abandoning our own.

And then perimenopause shows up and strips away every single fuck we had left to give. 😤

And suddenly we can see it so clearly.
How much energy we wasted.
How much of ourselves we gave away.
How long we managed everyone else’s comfort at the expense of our own sanity.
That’s not meanness babe. That’s awakening.

Midlife isn’t turning us into difficult women.
It’s turning us into honest ones.
Women who finally value their own peace enough to stop performing comfort for people who never once worried about ours.

And I will never apologize for that.
Not even a little bit. 😇

If you have officially entered your “not my problem anymore” era drop a 🙋‍♀️ below because we are exactly where we are supposed to be. 💛

Every culture that ever looked at the sky knew thi Every culture that ever looked at the sky knew this day mattered.

The Norse lit bonfires so large they could be seen from the next village. The Celts called it the Light of the Shore and believed the veil thinned in blazing light instead of darkness. The Slavs jumped over fires to seal their bonds. The Romans made June sacred for weddings.

🌞Litha is an old English word meaning gentle, navigable. The time when the sea was calm enough to sail.

Beneath all the names, all the traditions, all the fires one truth:

The sun is at its peak. Everything is fully illuminated.

It would like a word.

Summer Solstice is almost here and the Sun is strutting around at full power, reminding you that you weren’t born to play small, dim your light or tuck your dreams away in a dusty cupboard marked “maybe one day.”

This is your invitation to celebrate how far you’ve come, reconnect with what truly matters and ask yourself:

✨ What wants to grow?
✨ What wants to be illuminated?
✨ What am I ready to say YES to?

To help you work with this powerful Solstice energy, I’ve released my gloriously magical 40+ page Summer Solstice Guide (affectionately known as SASS because every witchy soul needs a little more SASS).

And after a lovely natter with my guides, I’ve also opened two special readings:

🔥 Your Solstice Light
🔥 The Fire Within

Just 21 reading spaces are available and, lovely one, these will be the last special readings I’ll be offering for a while as the weekly readings take a pause and I step into some deeper magic behind the scenes.

The portal is open.

The Sun is blazing.

The Faeries are probably causing trouble.

All that’s missing is you.
