Yule

The Yule Faeries – A Winter Solstice Story.

Jenny Heston · 3:33 pm ·

Once upon a time, (as that’s how all good stories start), a long time ago there was a wee group of tiny Faeries.

This group of little Faeries huddled in their home deep under the roots of a giant oak tree. They were safe and snug in their tiny underground cave lined with dandelion fluff, bird feathers, and dried moss.

Outside, the wind blew cold and the snow fell softly down to cover the ground. “I saw the Sun King today,” the faerie named Rose said as she pulled her mossy cloak tighter about her. “He looked so old and tired as he walked off through the forest. What is wrong with him?

“The great oak said he’s dying” answered Daffodil.

“Dying? Oh, what will we do now?” Little Meadow Grass started to cry, “If the Sun King dies, our little plant friends will not grow. The Birds will not come and sing again. Everything will be winter forever!” Lilac, Dandelion and Elder Blossom tried to comfort their friend, but they were all very sad. As they huddled together, there was a knock on the tiny door.

“Open up, Faeries,” called out a loud voice. “Why are you hiding instead of joining us in our Solstice celebration?” Rose opened the door and the little gnome Brown Knobby pushed inside, shaking the glistening snowflakes off his brown coat and hat.

“We are too sad to celebrate,” Daffodil said wiping her eyes, “The Sun King is dying, haven’t you heard?”

“He is dead, you silly Faeries.” Brown Knobby’s round dark eyes sparkled with laughter. “Now hurry, or we’ll be late for the celebration!”

“How can you be happy and laugh?!” Elder Blossom stamped her little foot and frowned at the gnome. “If the Sun King IS dead, it will always be winter. We will never see the Sun again!”

“Silly little child-Faeries.” Brown Knobby grabbed Dandelion by the hand and pulled her to her feet. “There is a secret to the Winter Solstice. Don’t you want to know what it is?”

The Faeries looked at him in surprise. “Secret?” they all said. “What secret? We are only new little Faeries, you silly gnome. We’ve never been to a Solstice celebration before.”

“Come and see. Come and see. Get your capes and come with me.” Brown Knobby danced and jigged around the room. “Hurry, Hurry, don’t be slow! To the Sacred Oak Grove through the snow!” He danced out of the door and disappeared.

“What did that gnome mean?” Rose asked as she gathered up her cloak of dried rose petals held together with cobwebs and lined with goose down.

“I don’t know, but the Lady lives in the Sacred Grove.” Meadow Grass pulled on her hat.

“Perhaps if we go to see the Goddess, She can explain what Brown Knobby was talking about”.

The Faeries left their snug little home and trudged off through the snow toward the sacred oak grove. The forest was dark with only the light of the Moon shining down through the thick fir branches and bare limbs of maple and hawthorn. It was very difficult for them to get through the snow because they were very, very small. As they waded through the wet snow and shivered in the cold wind, they met a fox.

“Where are you going, Faeries?” the fox asked.

“To the sacred grove,” they answered, they were cold and shivering.

“Climb on my back and I will take you there swiftly.”

The fox knelt down so the Faeries could climb up. Then he raced off through the dark.

“Listen!” Lilac said as they neared the Grove of Sacred trees. “Someone is singing happy songs. A LOT of someones.”

The beautiful music carried over the cold, still, moonlit air. It was the most beautiful music the Faeries had ever heard. The fox carried the Faeries right to the edge of the stone altar in the center of the grove, then knelt down.

“Look!” said Elder Blossom as they slid to the snow covered ground. “There is the Maiden and the Mother and the OLD Wise Crone, and many other Little People.”

“They are all smiling and happy,” said Lilac as she looked around at all the creatures.

“All the animals are here too,” whispered Dandelion. “Why are they all looking at the Mother?”

The Faeries moved closer to the three Ladies seated on the altar stone. The Mother held a bundle close in Her arms, smiling down at it. The Maiden reached down and took the Faeries gently in her Hands. She held them close to the Mother so they could see what She held.

“A Baby!” the Faeries cried. ” A new little Baby! Look how he glows!”

“He is the newborn Sun King,” said the Maiden, smiling.

“But Brown Knobby and the old oak tree said the Sun King was dead,” the Faeries answered her. “How can this little baby be the Sun King?”

“That is the great secret of the Winter Solstice.” The Old Wise One touched the baby’s cheek with her wrinkled hand. “Every year the Sun King must come to the sacred grove during the darkest days of winter where he dies. I take his spirit to the Mother who gives him new life again. This is the way for all creatures, not just the Sun King.”

” You mean everything lives and dies and lives again? The Faeries looked down in wonder at the baby Sun King, nestled in the arms of the Mother.

” Yes, Little Ones,” answered the Old Wise Crone. “There is never an end to life. This is the great mystical secret of the Winter Solstice.”

The Faeries laughed because they were so happy.

“I think the little Sun King should have gifts,” said Rose. “I will show him where the wild roses bloom in the early summer.”

“And, I will teach him to call the birds and listen to the songs of the wind,” exclaimed Dandelion.

“When he is older and stronger, ” said the Mother, “then the flowers will bloom at his touch, the birds will return to sing their songs, and the air will be warm from his breath, and winter will be gone for a time. Then the Sun King will run and play with you in the forest.”

The little Faeries sang to the Baby Sun King, songs of the coming spring, the sweet smelling flowers, the bumbling bees, and all the secrets of the forest. And all the creatures within the sacred grove sang with them. Then the fox took them back to their snug home under the roots of the giant oak tree where they dreamed wonderful dreams, waiting for the warmth of spring and the fun they would have with the little Sun King.

What does Peace Smell Like? Winter Solstice is coming!

Jenny Heston · 1:11 am ·

Happy Magickal, Miraculous, Musing, Magnificent, Mature, Manifesting first Monday of December!

How are you delicious lovely?  How was your last week and the eclipse energy for you?

I ask because many of you emailed and messaged saying you felt soooooooo out of sorts and I think a few of you used the word “fucked”.  I can totally relate!  My energy last week was all over the map, from panic, to anger, to anxiety, to fear, to needing to just be on my own to wanting to be sort of around others.  It was bizarre! And then I took time on the evening of the eclipse to immerse myself in a delicious ritual that nourished my soul and reset the energy, and the sense of Peace that came flooding in was Divine!

Which got me thinking about Peace.  What does that word really mean? In a fabulous kids book written by Vladimir Radunsky he asks kids aged 8 – 10 from all around the world What Does Peace Feel Like?  Here are some of their amazing answers.

What does peace smell like?

Like a bouquet of flowers in a happy family’s living room, like pizza with onions and sausage that just came out of the oven…

What does peace look like?

Like a cat and a dog curled up together in a basket, like new babies just born yesterday…

What does peace sound like?

Like a silent day, like raindrops falling, like no bad words…

What does peace taste like?

Like vanilla ice cream, chocolate ice cream, like sweet, like your favorite food times two…

What does peace feel like?

Like hugs your friends give you when you cry, like someone stroking your back; you shiver a little, but it’s a wonderful feeling…

So if you remember, last week I mentioned the first light of Advent being Hope and the Stones and the Bones.  Yesterday was the lighting of the candle of Peace and the Plants.  The  Roots, stem, leaf, flower, and fruit by whom we live and grow.

I love the awareness this light invites, the awareness of the food we eat, the plants that heal us, the plantscape in Nature that nurtures us and soothes our souls.

And this delicious energy of Peace so beautifully ties into the Winter Solstice which is rapidly approaching!

Solstice is only 15 days away and many of you have asked when there will be a Book of Winter Solstice (fondly referred to as BOWS).  It will be available within the next week!  Plus another delicious giftie for you.

I have to admit I love, love, love Solstice – to me it’s that perfect balance point and the start of something new and exciting, filled with potential and possibilities and I can feel the energy of it for a few weeks before it even arrives.

There is a sensation of reflection, going inwards and questioning that arrives naturally from this energy.  To me this is a time where I notice those “meh” moments more and really examine my life and ask the question “Am I showing up and embodying what I am called to do?”

That’s why, to me, I feel it’s vital to take some time out to honour this energy and work with it which in turn allows me to feel aligned.  In fact I feel more balanced, connected and inspired after I have taken some time.

As the days get shorter in December, we force ourselves to get through the darkness. Now is a good season for spiritual alchemy — time to evaluate your life, and know that you’ll survive the dark times.

As we leave the season of late Autumn we enter the season of Winter which is brought in by Solstice (Yule).  This is where we are invited to the downward spiral, the slow descent as water returns to Earth, emotion (water) coming into form (earth).  The energy is descending and the light is low—this is the most inward, the most yin part of the year. Yet this is the time of year where we have the most Yang activities!

However, you can’t fool your body!  When you really are tuned into your body and listen to the messages, your body often tells you things before anything or anyone else does.  It wants to relax, rest, rejuvenate, replenish, create and imagine.

It wants to embrace Peace and Hope fully!

So let me ask again – what does Peace mean to you and how can you walk with it into the darkness of Solstice?

Okay, with all that being said (sometimes I do chunter on!), let’s crack on with the reading.  When I went to the cards to ask who wanted to support and guide this week I was delighted to see that the White Light Oracle were super keen.  Now, if these guides are new to you please let me introduce you to them.

Let us guide you into the luminous realm of the sacred.  The sacred is your heart treasure.  It is that which brings light into your life.  The sacred is precious to you.  It matters enough that you are willing to devote yourself to it – even when that requires courage, sacrifice and growth.  The sacred generates inner warmth.  It brings you joy.  The sacred is a healing mirror that shows you the truth of your experience, which can include a compassionate reflection of your own suffering.  It shows you how to heal.  It inspires and protects you.  What is sacred for your heart is unique to you.  Yet, for every heart, the sacred is an experience of sublime love and deep meaning.  The sacred helps us remember who we are and shows us how to manifest our inner purpose.

Oh gosh yes, we certainly need to work within the sacred and with our strong rebellious hearts at this time!

Okay gorgeous one, settle into your body, breathe yourself back.  As you gently slow down your breathing I invite you to bring up the sensation of Peace (whatever that means to you) and allow it to swirl in your mind’s eye.  If you need a bit more support with Peace there’s a lovely little guided visualisation for you.  Then, when you’re ready, pick the card or cards that call to you.

Did you remember to pick?

Ready to go see?

BATH KOL

Eschew complicated explanations, as you seek the simplicity of the deepest truth of your heart.  Gently but firmly cast aside that which does not resonate as being true for your heart.  Focus upon, and speak from, a higher spiritual perspective.  All prayers are answered at the perfect time and in the perfect way.  You have a powerful voice, which can foster healing wisdom on our planet.

Bath Kol is a mysterious creature.  She is an angel known as the divine oracle, the daughter of the divine voice, the pure and true sound of spirit.  When she whispers to your heart, you feel it as an inner knowing, a truth.  To honour that inner knowing likely requires the confrontation of fear or moving in unexpected directions.  Even so, the deep resonance of her truth is more powerful than the resistance we may initially feel as we let go of our limited perspectives and allow ourselves to be guided by Spirit.

Often an inner spiritual call requires a leap of faith.  A more authentic, awakened you is coming to life.  Paving the way for the higher self to manifest typically means that fear and control based approaches need to be surrendered.  Honouring Bath Kols guidance requires courage but brings rich reward on many levels.

Acknowledge your true voice.  This may be the voice in your own heart which needs to be heard without judgement or censorship.  It may be an intuitive inner knowing to be recognised.  It may be a loving and helpful voice of a reliable guide or friend whom you know can be trusted.  It may be a teaching from a dream or an insight from a meditation, or even an inkling that certain happenings or sightings are signs from the Universe to help you on your life path.

Practice your power of discernment.  Filter ego from heart.  If a point of view lowers your vibration, makes you feel negatively about yourself or another, increases your confusion or makes matters seem more complicated, it is likely to be an ego-driven viewpoint.  To consider what you might be able to learn from that viewpoint, you need to settle yourself on more authentic spiritual ground.

DVARA PATRA

Out of confusion, a clear and progressive pathway is opening up for you.  It is an auspicious time to give generously of yourself to others, enriching the quality of your connections, expressing spiritual blessings of goodwill and encouragement from your heart.  A powerful blessing is entering your world.  A prayer is now being answered ina  beautiful way.  Spirit gives freely and generously of all the goods things, and the task of humanity is to learn how to receive.  The key to receiving is an open, surrendered, generous and trusting heart.

The Holy Grail is the sacred chalice.  It is a powerful, living, regenerative and deeply healing symbol of hope and blessing.  It will interact with each soul in its own way.  For your soul, that may involve a recognition that the light is always seeking you, wanting to fill and heal and bless and protect you, to initiate you into awareness of the realms of light, beauty and divine presence.

It may remind your heart to receive, that you are capable of being a channel for goodness, grace, abundance and pure light.  It may be recognised as a sign of a future blessing, of something truly desired finally coming to pass.

The sacred grail is hope; it is a blessing.  It is both a  portent of fulfilment and the inner means by which we connect with the loving language of light and truly receive.  In Sanskrit, patra means ‘goblet’ or ‘vessel.’  In learning how to receive, we also learn how to be received, how to be fully beheld, which is an expression of unconditional love.  The sacred chalice reminds us of our potential to hold, but also for the generosity of the Universe in providing for us so we, too, can be held and receive all we need.

Dvara is Sanskrit for a pathway, an opening or portal, a doorway or even a means or method.  Your deepest fulfilment is via the receptive faculty of the sacred feminine.  The femine way is organic, creative, responsive, spontaneous and effective.  It is not constrained by our human perceptions of what is or is not possible.  To honour and empower the sacred feminine genius in our lives requires a considerable shift away from mainstream, conditioning and into spiritual surrender.  Allowing her method, rather than blocking her loving creativity in our lives, entails the movement from head to heart.

As  you invert your priorities from ego to soul, you’ll invert your locus of orientation from head to heart, from outer to inner reality.  You will trust what your heart knows, whether or not it makes sense to your logical mind – or to anyone else’s for that matter.

YOGINI OF 285 Hz

Changes in your life, including closing doors or missed opportunities are not going to derail your fulfilment.  Realignments are happening based on divine wisdom and timing.  You are being diverted from unnecessary obstacles and suffering.  Trust in how your life path is unfolding.  Stay true to your authentic healing journey, because it is working, whether you realise that or not.  Significant inner healing is taking place.

In numerous spiritual traditions of the East, such as those from Nepal, Tibet and India , the yogini is a female spiritual adept, a practitioner of deep yoga that awakens a powerful connection with one’s real inner being.  The yogini holds space for healing and enlightenment, moving through obstacles and challenges with wisdom, patience, commitment and often great joy.  She is our spiritual sister, our sacred friend and our guide away from the bleak, erroneous thinking of ego into the softened, awakened, relaxed, gracious way of Spirit.

My darling you are on a powerful healing journey to connect body, mind and soul with the truth of your spiritual nature.  You are working at an inner level to let go of past pains and open up to your empowerment and grace, dignity and legitimacy in the present moment.  There is a spiritual approach to heal any and all struggles in your life.

If you feel disoriented or conflicted about a choice, trust that this chaos is a consequence of a cosmic realignment with your life path.  Move through it with trust in your heart, patience and a willingness to keep the faith, knowing you will eventually find your way.  The adjustments taking place within you will affect your outer world.  Just like the tumultuous alchemical journey of the caterpillar transforming into a butterfly, your inner transformation shall shape you and your world into the beautiful, inspired, and authentic form it is meant to be.

Woosah!  How deliciously lovely.  Thus glorious bean I wish for you a week of Peace and Hope with an appreciation for the bones and stones and a love for the plants that nourish and heal you.  Keep your eyes peeled for the release of The Book of Winter Solstice which will fully support you in walking your path.  Or come join us in The Creatrix Circle for our Winter Solstice gathering! Breathe in  Peace and Hope and Big Blessings, Hugs and Squeezes!  See you next week.

Yule time is here and welcome to B.O.W.S!

Jenny Heston · 1:01 am ·

Has it occurred to you that this is the last Yule time (Northern Hemisphere) or Litha time (Southern Hemisphere) of this decade!!  Wowzers!  Let alone the fact that we are entering Eclipse time, but that’s for another day.

I love Winter Solstice and I can feel the energy of it for a few weeks before it even arrives. It’s dark far earlier, much colder outside and there is a desire to cocoon, wear warmer clothes and eat soup (at least for me).  There is a sensation of reflection, going inwards and questioning that arrives naturally from this energy. To me this is a time where I notice those “meh” moments more and really examine my life and ask the question “Am I showing up and embodying what I am called to do?” That’s why, to me, I feel it vital to take some time out to honour this energy and work with it which in turn allows me to feel aligned.  In fact I feel more balanced, connected and inspired after I have taken some time.

As a kid I used to be scared of the dark, I felt it held things that were terrifying and uncomfortable.  As an adult I have learned that’s not true and have become willing to walk into the darkness and allow myself to get comfortably uncomfortable and dig deep, explore the mysteries and embrace all aspects of being human.  Light and dark.  You can’t have one without the other!  Winter Solstice invites us with a safe open hand to step into the place of mystery, the warm comforting dark that wraps around us like a cosy blankie.  Whispering in our ear – rest, be, embrace, release, create, imagine, grow ……….

So what is Winter Solstice and why celebrate it?  Why take the time to honour it? The Pagan celebration of Winter Solstice (also known as Yule) is one of the oldest winter celebrations in the world.  Winter Solstice takes place on the day where the night is the longest and the hours of sun or daylight are the shortest. In fact “Solstice” comes from two Latin words: sol meaning “sun” and sistere meaning “to stand still” because it appeared as though the sun and moon had stopped moving across the sky. This longest night of the year, followed by a renewal of the sun, demonstrates the cyclical order of the cosmos. In this way, celebrating the solstice can be a beautiful remembrance that our lives are part of a larger order, always changing, always renewing.  It’s a gorgeous invitation to not be afraid of the dark or the shadow, as it is in that place is where we shift, grow and recharge.

Winter Solstice has been celebrated in various forms and for thousands of years across a myriad of cultures, all who are willing to step into the darkness and wait to welcome back the light. (And if you lived in medieval times that’s pretty ballsy!) So as I promised gorgeous one, my gift to you for this Yule time is B.O.W.S

I have been so thrilled to create this wonderful package, packed with information, rituals, intentions, magick and a glorious guided visualisation, just for you.  You would have received the password for it in your email.

For my glorious ones in the South, I haven’t forgotten, let me introduce you to B.O.S.S. (Your Book of Summer Solstice).  Again, packed with rituals, intentions, magick and a glorious guided visualisation.

Whether you are North or South wishing you a Blessed Solstice.  So Be It.

Winter Solstice is only 5 days away! A Gift, and My Virginal Experience.

Jenny Heston · 1:00 am ·

Happy Merry, Majestic, Magickal, Magnificent, Marvelous Monday!  How are you? How was the last Full Moon of the decade for you? I found it deliciously delightfully demanding!  Lol. However, the night sky was so clear that you could see her in all her glory which was amazing, and I love seeing the rings around her which means it’s going to be a cold night and frost on the ground in the morning!  Which there certainly was the next morning.

The other day, as I was driving, the radio was counting down how many shopping days until Xmas, have to say that really irritated me.  This can be such a stressful season for so many people with all the concerts, social activities, kids activities, expectations, loss, feeling alone and the frenetic shop, shop, shop. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not being a bah-humbug but I don’t think people need to be made to feel they are on a tight timeline and not keeping up.  Also, why not say “It’s only 5 days until Yule!”  I have a fabulous Wicca Calendar app on my phone that is counting down the days, hours and minutes to Winter Solstice (aka as Yule).

Here in the Northern Hemisphere we are celebrating Yule (in the Southern Hemisphere you are celebrating Litha).  Okay, why do I love this celebration so much? For so many reasons!  It’s the longest night and the shortest day, we are welcoming back the sun, it’s the beginning of Winter, it’s the walk into the warm welcoming darkness, that we all tend to avoid.  It’s part of my heritage and even if I tried to ignore it my body would remind me. Winter Solstice celebrates the longest hours of darkness or the rebirth of the sun and is believed to hold a powerful energy for regeneration, renewal and self-reflection. (And look, no frenetic shopping involved lol).  Also, if we look at Christmas, many of the pieces that we celebrate came from Yule.

I could write pages and pages about Yule/Winter Solstice, how to celebrate, rituals, spells etc.  But then this post would be about 30 pages long.  So instead; for you gorgeous ones who are part of our community and on our email list I would like to gift you with B.O.W.S – Book of Winter Solstice.  Now for those of you in the Southern Hemisphere there will be a gift of B.O.S.S – Book of Summer Solstice.  Links to these will be sent out on Friday the 20th.  So if this is something that interests you, make sure you are on the email list (super easy, there is a sign up box.)

Oh yes, there will be two glorious guided visualisations, one for the North and one for the South.

So the other day I had a “Virginal Experience” (tricky to do when you have 5 kids!)  As I’ve yomped with Danu the therapy dog, I have noticed that here, in this city, people dress their dogs up.  Some people do it for the day to day, which I totally don’t comprehend as I have a tough enough time getting out the door without having to dress a dog!  However, lots of people have fun Christmas things for their dogs. Hmmmmm. After watching this for a week I began to feel like a bad dog human. Were other dogs judging Danu?  Did I care? Were other humans judging me? Did I care? No was the emphatic answer, but……… Now keep in mind, I have had a dog for 30 years and I have never, ever, ever – until now – dressed them.  I love them, but they are a dog. However, I will say I succumbed. Thus, I went to various pet stores and looked at all the ridiculous Santa jumpers, Mrs. Claus outfits, things that looked like pyjamas and sooooo couldn’t get behind any of them.  So, I popped into the last place, walked through the “doggy clothing aisle” (who knew there was such a thing) and just as I was about to walk out the door there was a flash of green and gold. Hmmmm. I went and checked it out and it was the most funky, cool, fun Elf coat!  Yup. I bought it, I am no longer a dog garb Virgin! I then went and dug out my bell bedecked elf hat and Danu and I went for a walk in our garb.

As we did, it was interesting to watch responses – so many people smiled and laughed, small kids wanted to pet and snuggle the elf dog.  So my reasoning is, if it makes people smile and feel good I can do this until Xmas (possibly). Though when someone said today – “You are such lovely Elves”.  My response was “Depends on the day. Some days I am on the Elf on the Shelf, other times, A Troll on a Stroll, A Gnome in Your Home, A Faery in the Dairy, A Dwarf on the Wharf, now if I could only find something that rhymes with Ogre!”  If you have any suggestions, please let me know!

So there we go my lovelies, daft as it may be.

Oh yes, many of you have asked if there is going to be a Solstice special on Private Readings.  I have pondered and perked this and yes, for the Wheel of the Year Reading.  This reading is offered rarely, however, I am willing to open up 10 spots and offer at a huge discount.  This offer will be in place from now until Xmas Eve only, and as I take from the 23rd to January 6th off, the readings will be delivered after that time.  So if you are interested, I highly suggest you snap it up now. After all, we are entering a glorious new decade!

Okay, let’s crack on with the reading.

When I asked the cards who would like to guide this week just prior to Winter Solstice, I was delighted to see the “Lightworker Oracle” were adamant.  The perfect guides for this celebration and a welcoming of 2020.  Now if these guides are new to you, it would be rude not to introduce them:-  This deck is for lightworkers and what I mean by that is old souls.  They have an interest in being of service. They want to live a life of passion and purpose and have their life mean something at a spiritual level.  They care about causes that stir their hearts. They are often the black sheep of their family. Does this sound like you? I know it does for me.

The crystals that wanted to show and shine are:-  Stilbite – expands consciousness, helps organise confusion of the mind, encouraging one to take charge of life by committing to a direction.  Labradorite – creates a force field throughout the aura, protecting and strengthening the energies within and preventing others from ‘tapping in’ and draining you.  Smoky Quartz – grounding, absorbs and transmutes negativity by grounding it in the earth where it neutralises.

Ready?  Okay, breathe for a moment or two, nice long slow deep breaths.  Breathing as easy as Receiving the guidance that wants to support you, fill you up, inspire you.  Breathe. Receive. Allow. As you breathe this way allow the day to day dross to drop to the floor and feel yourself being filled up with gorgeous light that twines with your light.  Supporting, nourishing, replenishing. When you are ready, pick the card or cards that invite you to be seen.

Did you remember to pick?

Let’s go have a look.

UNPLUG FROM MASS CONSCIOUSNESS

There is a belief system based on fear, doubt and distrust this is known as “mass consciousness”.  It says it is safer to stay with the crowd, not to question what you have been taught. It says you can’t trust the Divine to take care of your financial well being or your emotional needs.  It says you should be afraid and not take risks. Its says that if you dare to stand up and live your truth, you’ll be lost and alone, humiliated, rejected or even destroyed.

You are being guided to unplug from that systems of beliefs.  You are capable of a more creative, loving and soul-satisfying way of living.  To access this, let go of the way that is too small for your soul!

You are brave and aware enough to think outside the box, beyond what society or your peers may consider ‘normal’.  You are supposed to be questioning things right now. You are in a transition from one way of thinking to another, opening up to a new world which you can trust enough to live with peace and happiness because of the upgraded new beliefs you are cultivating.

No matter how others may resist or criticise your choices (perhaps your new ideas take you away from the world they feel comfortable in), your higher guidance encourages you to keep opening your mind to a more loving, higher reality.

Sometimes breaking from the accepted norm, doing things differently or being considered weird to family, colleagues and friends is a sign that you are breaking away from the consciousness of the masses, which is not compatible with your own higher frequency consciousness.

So keep unplugging yourself, one layer, thought, word and deed at a time, from that which the mass consciousness would have you buy into – more stuff, more fear, more competition, more doubt and more suffering.  You can challenge any thoughts you don’t want to have. Free yourself. You have the power to change your world and the world we live in as a result, on liberating thought at a time.

ORBS OF LIGHT

The spiritual worlds are delivering a message to you.  You may have already heard it, through telepathic reception, and mistaken it for your own thought.  Yet it is inspired by your higher guidance, those spiritual beings that love you without condition. It is an answer to a question and guidance to increase your happiness.

It is possible to pray without realising it.  The Universe is lovingly listening to every thought and feeling in your heart and mind.  When you intentionally speak to the Universe and ask your higher guidance to help you with an issue, this is  a powerful way to call the light into your life. It works. Often quite rapidly! However, sometimes we ask for help without being so aware of doing so.  Worrying about an issue or pondering a question are ways this happens.

There are orbs of light around you.  They are spiritual beings that love you.  These orbs contain information and energies that help answer questions – and worries – through the intelligence and love of the higher spiritual worlds.  That information might come through a song, a phrase, a feeling or a colour or symbol that unlocks awareness in the deeper recesses of your mind and body.

To access the information of these orbs of light, to be open to seeing them more clearly, whether directly with your own energetic vision through clairvoyance, or through photographs or other means, do so.

Unconditional loving orbs are available to you at every moment, open your heart and invite them in.

DIVINE TALENTS

You are a talented soul.  Over many lifetimes, you have developed your spiritual abilities to channel higher awareness, attract healing energy and radiate light to uplift the consciousness of those around you.  Your divine talents are many, and uniquely expressed through you. Your talents do not have to resemble those of another to have their own inestimable value. Do not be afraid to use them!

Divine talents are a way in which the Universe reminds us of what we are here to do.  Divine talents are unlimited. They include the ability to channel spiritual guidance and healing energy, to perceive clairvoyantly, and be psychic and empathic.  Other spiritual talents include writing, performing, sound healing, dancing to awaken awareness, creating art, photography, or divinely inspired tools and jewelry.  Cooking food that heals body and spirit is a spiritual talent, as are the abilities to bring people together, to offer comforting and inspiring words at the right time, to help others overcome fear and feel more at peace in moments of importance and more.

Do you acknowledge your talents, yourself?  Believe in yourself, your abilities and in your capacity to use those talents in a constructive, healing way?  Keep developing your talents until your own unique expression comes to life. Don’t give up in the early and possibly awkward stages, dismissing your abilities as less than those of another.  Trust that there is something very real and worthwhile in you. Do not dismiss or diminish your potential. Treat yourself as an investment worthy of development!

Give yourself a chance – enough time, attention and practice to discover what you are really capable of.  The Universe knows! Soon, you shall too.

8 Rituals to help you celebrate Winter Solstice.

Jenny Heston · 8:31 pm ·

So what is Winter Solstice and why celebrate it?  Why take the time to honour it?  Good questions, so let’s explore from whence it came and what it means.

Winter Solstice has been celebrated in various forms and for thousands of years across a myriad of cultures.

There was Saturnalia in Ancient Rome which began on December 17 and lasted for 7 days.  These celebrations were held from as far back as around 217 BC to honour Saturn, the father of the gods.

Feast of Juul – This is where we get the term Yule from at this time of year, was a pre-Christian festival observed in Scandinavia at the time of the December solstice.  People would light fires to symbolize the heat and light of the returning sun and a Juul (or Yule) log was brought in and dropped in the hearth as as a tribute to the Norse god Thor.  This log was burned until nothing but ash remained.  The ashes were then collected and either strewn on the fields as fertiliser every night until Twelfth Night or kept as a charm.

Yalda – or Shab-e-Chelleh (night of fourty) is an Iranian festival celebrated on the “longest and darkest night of the year” – Solstice.  Every year, on December 21st, Iranians celebrate the arrival of winter, the renewal of the sun and the victory of light over darkness on Yalda Night.

Santo Tomas – a celebration in Guatemala where the Mayan Indians indulged in the ritual known as the Palo Volador, or “flying pole dance.”  Three men climb on top of a 50 foot pole as one of them beats a drum and plays a flute.  The other two men wind a rope attached to the pole around one foot and jump.  If they land on their feet, it is believe that the sun god will be pleased and that the days will start getting longer.

If I were to try and explain this celebration in a nutshell it would be a time for introspection, embracing of the shadow, a willingness to walk into the dark, to then celebrate the returning of the light within and without.  This is a celebration of honouring the dark before calling into the light and then most certainly celebrating the return of the sun and the light.

So let’s talk rituals – some people get really weirded out when the word “ritual” is mentioned.  So let’s put some myths aside right now – there is no right way or wrong way, you don’t have to have all the ingredients for a certain ritual, it doesn’t need to be complex and over the top (but if that’s your style, go for it).  I personally like simple rituals that I can do with my kids, on my own, with friends I trust and I don’t ever want them to feel like I am adding to my “to do” list, especially in this frenzied time.

To me ritual is intentional and all about creating space for you to tap into the seasons, the reasons and yourself.  By performing simple rituals with personal meaning to celebrate the solstice, these rituals will serve as touchstones to help you cultivate an attitude of receptiveness and appreciation that will carry you through the holiday season with more ease.  A good starting point might be to make a promise this winter to spend more time listening, watching, and honoring the slower, quieter rhythm of the season.

Always, always start with setting the space.  Whether it is lighting a candle, hanging a wreath of evergreens or just sitting in silence for a while. Honour yourself, your connection to Gaia and Spirit, the celebration and get clear on your intention.  Let’s explore some rituals to help you tap into this gorgeous energy, gain more peace and clarity and release whatever is not serving you.

Be Still, Be Quiet – Tools – You, a candle.

The minute I wrote that title I thought of the song based on “Christina Rossetti’s” poem – In the Bleak Midwinter.

If you don’t know this poem the first stanza is “In the bleak mid-winter, Frosty wind made moan; Earth stood hard as iron, Water like a stone; Snow had fallen, snow on snow, Snow on snow, In the bleak mid-winter long ago.”

Yet for some reason this poem captures the energy of this celebration.  It is a time to stop, stand still.

So if you are willing (appreciating we are all very busy – as we tell ourselves), take some time to just be quiet.  Turn off all the electronica, the TV, the cell phone, your laptop or whatever it is.  Sit in the dark and just breathe and as you breathe imagine a glorious sunlight coming into your heart space and as you breathe out release the strings of darkness that we all have.  Keep breathing in this way and with those intentions and when you’re ready gently bounce up.  Turn on the lights, light a candle and eat something sunny.  An egg perhaps?

Release, Cleanse and Create!- Tools – Frankincense, Myrrh, Cedar, Juniper Berries or Sage, a candle, journal for writing in. Peace and quiet for 20 minutes.

Create a space.  Just sit, light a candle and give out a blessing.  Anne Hayman has a lovely one that I work with – “ Bless me on this holy day, as I honor the traditions of my ancient sisters. I hold space for myself + for all living creatures on this planet. I stand strong in this long night of darkness. I trust that the light returns. I see my own energy reflected in nature as I go within, only to emerge full of light. May the blessings be… And so it is!”

Then take a bit of time to write out what you want to release, physically, emotionally, mentally, spiritually.  Where are you holding it in your body and how you will feel when it is released?  When you’re finished writing, rip the paper up and place it to the side.

Then using Frankincense, Myrrh and Cedar (if you are using the real thing then you will need a charcoal disc to burn them on). If you don’t have these, no panic – use Sage smudge or whatever you have.  Light this sacred incense up let it waft through the air and take a moment to think about all you have released.  Then with the candle you lit at the beginning, over a safe container, light up the pieces of paper you ripped up.

As you watch the flames devour your darkness and releasing see it all absorbed back into the sky, the Universe, healthy, cleaned and transferred.  .

Sit for a moment with the waft of incense around you and your candle burning and say to yourself – “Light above me, light around me, light within me, light below me.  My light is my strength and my protection.”  You have just welcomed the light back.

So now you have created a glorious, sacred space within yourself with this ritual.  What do you want to fill it with?

Imagine yourself as fully connected to the Divine and the Earth, you are a conduit in the middle.  With this glorious energy pulsing through you – what do you want to create?  What makes you feel energised?  What makes you feel vibrant and alive?  How do you want to share your light with others? Write it all down.  If you use cards and feel fully connected to them, do a yearly spread.  If you want some help, let me know.

When you are done, place both hands on your heart and breathe long and deep.  You have just done something that is powerful and changes energy in a deep, subtle way.  Breathe in, breathe out and know, trust you are a delicious being of light and love.  So it is, and so it will be.

Get outdoors!  Tools – You and the outdoors.

Is there a trail you can walk or a field or bank of snow you can lie down in?

A perch that provides the perfect view?  Perhaps it is the top of your apartment building or a rocky outcrop.  Wherever it is, even it is in your yard, find a quiet place to just acknowledge and BE.   Get outside, whether it is at night or to watch the glorious sunrise.  Get outdoors.

Create a Giving Tree – Tools – Food in the fridge, popcorn strings, a tree, candles.

This is deliciously easy and can be done on your own, with your partner or with your kids.  Create a giving tree (this is where the idea of Xmas trees came from).  Make some strings of popcorn and berries, apple slices or whatever you would like to do. I have done nuts on strings, apple slices covered in peanut butter embedded with seeds, popcorn and cranberry strings.

Take all your glorious offerings to the tree you picked, whether inside or outside.  In the dark hang your strings on the tree  and tell the tree how you welcome the light back so that there is more than enough abundance for everyone and everybeing.  Stand back in the dark and revel.  Then light your candles up and just take some time and appreciate where you are, your glorious tree, the offerings you made and the light coming back.  If you want to burst into song with something like “Here Comes the Sun” by Simon and Garfunkel, then you so need to send me a video!

Invite People for Dinner! – Tools: You, friends or family, candles, food and a willingness.

This is a celebration time and what better way to celebrate than share food with others.

Sharing food is an important part of any celebration, it is particularly meaningful during Solstice as it represents faith in the return of the sun and the harvest.  So have a friend or more than one over for dinner!  Light some candles, share your goals, intentions and what you want to “harvest” in the next 6 months.

Turn off the Lights! – Tools: You, lights and thermostats?

This is super easy, turn off all the lights in your home, turn off your furnace, radiators, , baseboard heaters or whatever form of heat you have. Open the doors and windows wide and allow the cold air to flood in and breeze through (I highly recommend you bundle up).

In that soft darkness sit and BE in silence for a good 5 minutes or more.  With the combination of dark, cold and silence it cultivates a stillness in yourself.  You may feel a tad wiggly or odd but just keep breathing.

I used to do this with the kids when they were younger (and this is also my youngest monster’s birthday) it was quite profound to see what came up and out. When you are done with the dark (and don’t run from it),  go around and gently close the doors and windows, put on your heating supply and as you do send a little blessing out “As the darkness begins to retreat and light begins its return once again – I am grateful”.

Then light candles galore (this welcomes back the sun), sing songs, share food and stories and what came up.  And most importantly relax, enjoy and celebrate!  If you are doing this on your own, after you have lit your candles, put on music that makes you feel awesome.  Move your body and eat something delicious that is not your norm and give huge thanks.

Walk into the Dark – Tools – evergreen boughs, candles, apples and again – a willingness.

I have done this one for quite a few years with my kids and friends and it is stupendous and delicious.  The Spiral Walk.

A few days prior to Solstice we go gather a truck filled with cedar boughs (keep in mind I do live on the side of a mountain).  Then on the white snow we create a spiral that you could walk like a labyrinth.  In the centre of the spiral is a tree stump covered with nature’s offerings – berries, shells, pinecones and crystals and a large candle.

The evening of Solstice we all gather together and each has an unlit candle in an apple and the only lit candle is the one in the centre of the spiral. One at a time gently holding the unlit candle someone walks  the spiral into the darkness, towards the light they whisper what they want to release.  When they hit the centre they light their own candle and as they walk slowly back out of the spiral they say what their creation, hearts desire, manifestation are going to be.

When they see a lovely spot that resonates for them they put their apple candle on the spiral and so it goes.   By the time this ritual is done the spiral is lit up all over the place and then we would go inside, turn on all the lights and eat a meal and celebrate together.  Have to say, every time we have done this as a family the spiral has been lit up all night and the centre candle has never gone out, no matter the snow or the winds.

Gift and Share – Tools:  You, your stuff, large bags.

You’ve heard the saying “What is one man’s trash is another man’s treasure?”  What better way to release and invite in the abundance that comes with the sun than releasing things you don’t need.  Now I’m not talking about those tatty, ripped stained jeans – but what about that sweater you haven’t worn in years, those jeans that are lovely but you don’t like?  Things like that.  What about the food in your pantry that was given to you or brought to a gathering that you are never going to eat as it isn’t your thing?  (For me I think of nuts as I don’t eat them).

So intentionally gather these things together and as you bag them up to drop off where they can be really used, set the intention of releasing for yourself and that you have created space in your physical life for more abundance and light and that your donations are welcomed and helping someone who will really enjoy them and appreciate them.

So wishing you a stupendous Solstice and a massive release and intention setting.  Remember there is no right way, you just have to take the time, set an intention and do it.

Happy holidays to all of you, whether it is Hanukkah, Christmas, Solstice or none of those. May you feel peace, love and tap into your light.

The game that she always wanted to play with everyone was Boggle, as she loved words.

She would often cheat and try to plausibly pass off a word.

Thus, one of the ways I’ve honoured her today on the first deathaversary was to make hourglasses filled with some of her ashes and glitter.

One for each of the grandchildren so she can always participate in games.
